FREMONT – City of Fremont road crews are hard at work in the bitter cold today after a water main in downtown Fremont burst this afternoon.
An 8 inch water main pipe burst on Monday around noon around 3rd and Park. Vehicles parked in the immediate area of the break were asked to move their vehicles to make way for a road crew. The road crew cut into Park Avenue, excavated a few feet of frozen soil and located the leak. Water service through the effected pipe was stopped, and the leaking area of the pipe was isolated.
A temporary fix is currently being applied, and the City hopes to restore water service to the affected area by 6PM Monday evening. Traffic should not be impacted and the intersection remains open. A permanent repair will be needed, but cannot be installed until the weather warms up.
