PRAGUE – Last night, a Columbus woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident outside of Prague on Highway 79. Her teenage passenger had to be life-flighted from the scene.
Just before 10PM, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of an accident involving a passenger truck and a car at the intersection of Hwy 79 and County Road R just outside of Prague, Nebraska. A 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Chad Kreikemeir, age 30 of Weston, Nebraska was south bound on Hwy 79. A 2000 Toyota driven by Jennifer Abernathy, age 37 of Columbus, Nebraska was east bound on County Road R and failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy 79 and R.
The Toyota broadsided by the Dodge Ram at the intersection. A passenger in the Toyota, Lakota Marvin, age 19, was life-flighted to Bryan Hospital. Kreikemeir was transported to the hospital and later released. Abernathy was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol may have been a factor in this fatal collision. The investigation is on-going, with an autopsy scheduled this morning.
