Collegiate Track & Field Championships Underway for Midland & Nebraska

The NAIA National Track and Field Championships began yesterday in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Midland University has two All-Americans after day one.  Nathan Houser took second in the hammer throw and Seth Sabata was seventh.  Houser and Reid Kirlin will compete today in the Discus.

Huskers

The Nebraska track and field team earned four bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on day one of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Hornet Stadium on Thursday. Athletes who finish in the top 12 of a preliminary round event advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas from June 5-8.

The day began with a trio of Huskers advancing to the NCAA Championships in the women’s javelin. Chase Wolinski led Nebraska in the event, finishing second with a throw of 179-9 (54.79m). Brittni Wolczyk placed eighth with a mark of 163-7 (49.87m). Sydney Otto was 10th and qualified with a distance of 161-7 (49.27m). It will be Wolczyk’s fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, Otto’s second time competing at the championship and Wolinski’s first.

Action at Hornet Stadium continues on Friday with field events beginning at 2 p.m. and running events starting at 6:30 p.m.
