College 4 Kids Returns to Fremont’s Milliken Park Elementary

FREMONT – Metro Community College will once again offer their “College 4 Kids” program in Fremont, beginning next week, to give young ones an opportunity to preview higher learning and stay engaged throughout the summer.

The classes on offer from Metro this year will all take place at Milliken Park Elementary school in Fremont’s  Washington Heights neighborhood, and most classes are appropriate for kids age 6-11. Each class is priced separately, so they may enroll for one, two or three classes in any given week. Each class offered at Milliken Park will be at a per student cost of $30.00. Classes being offered include:

Crazy Chemical Concoctions (ages 8-11) at Milliken Park Elementary

Bring out the mad scientist! Join Metropolitan Community College as we learn the principles of chemistry while experimenting with ordinary household items. Come discover how and why ordinary supplies like vinegar, lemon juice, salt, sugar and glue can create bubbling, oozing, slimy substances sure to gross out your parents. We’ll have a world of fun while learning chemistry basics.

Cooking with Science (ages 6-11) at Milliken Park Elementary

Do you have an appetite for science? In this class, we will explore cooking through hands-on science experiments. Students will eat their way through various exciting learning opportunities using elements like matter, solar power and more fun interactive projects. Come hungry and ready to taste test.

Roller Coasters and Rockets (ages 6-11) at Milliken Park Elementary

Join Metropolitan Community College in designing and building contraptions that are wild, crazy or simply defy logic. As young engineers, we will build our own mini marble roller coasters, slingshot UFO helicopters, create unique skewer structures and shoot rockets into the sky. It’ll be a blast.

STEM Olympics (ages 6-11) at Milliken Park Elementary

Go for the “gold” with Olympic event themed engineering challenges. Use the principles of gravity, inertia and friction to build the fastest bobsled tracks and ski slopes. Design streamlined javelins that will accurately hit targets. Create buoyant miniature kayaks that will navigate rushing waters and serpentine tracks. These STEM adventures will immerse campers in the science behind Olympic competition.

Wacky and Weird Art (ages 6-11) at Milliken Park Elementary

Explore the world of art from a whole new perspective. Some of the world’s best artists had very unique and unusual ways of creating. You will be painting upside down like Michelangelo, using wacky tools to paint like Vincent van Gogh and using marbles and Hot Wheels cars to paint like Jackson Pollock. Come be weird with us and create some true works of art while having a blast.
