Car Fire Shuts Down Part of Highway 30 Near Ames

AMES – Highway 30 near the west edge of Ames was shut down due to a car fire early Friday morning.

According to Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen, the fire occurred just after 4 a.m. near County Road 15. Jeffery Kaiser of North Bend said he was driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer when he smelled smoke and pulled over. The vehicle ended up being fully engulfed by flames.

The Fremont Rural Fire Department responded to the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames by 5:35 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
