Anonymous Tip Leads to Drug Arrest Early Friday Morning

FREMONT – The Fremont Police Department received an anonymous tip early this morning that resulted in the arrest of one man on five charges.

It was just after 5AM this morning, Friday August 16th, when police received a tip that someone in their neighborhood was in a vehicle and in possession of drugs. Police responded to the 1000 block of north Park Avenue, and spotted the vehicle. The responding officer approached the vehicle and made contact with Benjamin WJ Franta, 42, of Nickerson, NE.

Franta appeared nervous, and the officer observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage in Franta’s vehicle.  Franta denied officers consent to search his car. This triggered a K9 sniff around the outside of the vehicle, at which point the K9 alerted to the presence of drugs.  A further search yielded a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine with methamphetamine inside, a marijuana pipe with marijuana residue inside, as well as other pieces of drug paraphernalia. During the search, Franta threw one pipe in an apparent attempt to hide it or destroy it.

Franta was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, obstructing a peace officer, using or possessing drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.
