COLUMBUS – Raiders took the game to 5 sets against Division 1 Iowa Western on Wednesday.
#3 NJCAA Division 2 Central Community College would eventually fall, but not before a tough 5 set match with #4 NJCAA Division 1 Iowa Western.
The raiders were able to capture the first set 25-21, but would drop the following to sets by a small margin of 3 points.
CCC Head Coach Mary Young, “Overall, I was really proud of my entire team. We played hard and went to battle tonight. We had 2 players suffer injuries tonight and it played through the adversity with a lot of resolve and solid teamwork. ”
The Raiders came back an took set 4 in extra points, eventually winning 27-25, but the final set would fall in favor of Iowa Western 15-8.
“I thought our defense kept us in the battle; Maddie Davis kept a ton of balls in play and she served extremely well and was a great spark for us in the back court. I can’t say enough about Maeghan Pieper’s effort for the night, she gave IW fits at the net and was a constant threat in the match,” says Young.
This is only the Raiders 3rd loss of the year, with the first loss coming to #1 Parkland College and the other two coming to Iowa Western.
“Again an overall great effort for our team against a physical Iowa Western squad. We had ourselves in position to win, with 2 match points in the 4th set and IW answered with big plays. “
#4 (NJCAA Division I) Iowa Western Community College defeated #3 (NJCAA Division II) Central Community College in a well-played match tonight.
