NEBRASKA CITY – A new K9 unit is joining the Nebraska City police force.
Mack, a 120-pound Belgian Malinois, will be the first K9 on the force since the passing of Jordy in 2016.
Mack arrived in Nebraska City Tuesday night from Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Penn.
He will be completing 13 weeks of training at a K9 camp starting in early September.
The training that Mack and his handler, Officer Brennon Flash, will receive includes drug detection, tracking, detention work, suspect apprehension and evidence recovery. Once this training is complete, Mack will join Officer Flash as a full-time member of the force.
Wenton Bickell Foundation has provided the funds for the purchase of the dog. Additional donations are being accepted for care and upkeep.
