JOHNSON – A Sunday stroll passed the classic cars, hand-crafted quilts and dug out barbecue offers plenty of explanation of why Johnson has been a Father’s Day destination for 54 years.
The pit master and his crew of “chicken floppers” work 11 hours at the 60-foot long, wood-fired pit. With well-timed swabbings of secret sauce, over 900 pounds of chicken is ready for Father’s Day appetites.
For Kelsey Bohling, it’s about family traditions.
Bohling: “ Me and my sister are both in college now and we don’t get home that often, so coming home for this gives us a good day just to come out and enjoy things. It’s pretty much an annual tradition for my family to come in and enjoy Father’s Day here.”
