Community Directed Health Measure for City of Fremont in Effect Sunday

FREMONT – A Community Directed Health Measure is now in effect for the City of Fremont. The Community Directed Health Measure directs all beauty salons, nail salons, barber shops, gyms, fitness centers, tattoo parlors, and massage therapist establishments to cease operations as of this  Sunday, April 5, 2020.
The City of Fremont’s Board of Health issued Community Directed Health Measure #1 this morning, Friday, April 3. The CDHM references the State level DHM, and makes an important addition that directs all gyms, fitness centers, beauty salons, nail salons, barber shops and tattoo and massage therapist establishments within the City of Fremont to cease operations.
Gatherings at all other locations are limited to 10 persons or fewer. Food and beverage purveyors are still limited to carry-out, drive-thru or delivery service. No on-site consumption of food or drink is permitted. Lines at these establishments must adhere to the 6 foot “social distancing” rule. Daycares are permitted to remain open under the previously established guidelines for that industry.
Healthcare centers, including day centers, are exempt from the 10-person limitation. Retail and grocery stores, office environments, factories, distribution centers, and city/county/governmental facilities are likewise exempt. However, the CDHM directs these facilities to use heightened, diligent and effective disinfection of all common surfaces. Employees should observe social distancing and thorough hand washing multiple times throughout their scheduled work time.  Visitors in such environments, especially to retail stores and other places where many people are in transit, should limit their activities to the essential. “Keep your distance in stores,” said Mayor Getzschman, “Don’t stop to talk to neighbors and friends.”
The CDHM for the City of Fremont will be enforced by the Fremont Police Department. This CDHM will remain in effect through at least May 6, 2020.
“This wasn’t taken lightly,” said Mayor Getzschman. “This was a very hard decision. We’re a community of 26,000 – we need to take this seriously. The best thing anyone can do is, really, stay home.”

A previous version of the CDHM and of this post referred to massage therapist establishments as “massage parlors.” This language has been corrected and a revised CDHM posted. No other aspects of the CDHM were changed.
